About Carles Pina i Estany
About me
Name: Carles Pina i Estany.
Born: Manresa, near to Barcelona, in 1981.
Currently working in London at Mendeley Ltd as a software engineer in C++ and Qt. Before that, I worked in Barcelona (VoIP company) and Tallinn (Estonia) in Elvior.
Free Software
I’ve been using GNU/Linux since 1997 aprox. with a Eurielec distribution, which was a Red Hat based with KDE 1.0 beta 3 and Kernel 2.0.32.
Since then I’ve been collaborating in some applications or conferences:
- Creator and maintainer of qdacco (available on Debian, qdacco package). C++ and Qt.
- Collaborator to Grub2. Added gettext support, graphic font failback, etc.
- Creator and maintainer of qphotosort (Python and Qt)
- One of the creators of Catux-USB.
- Collaborator (usually with small things) in different free software packages like Pydance, pidgin, Amarok, gnokii, gwenview, geeqie, xdiskusage, mtr and some more.
- I like Python (so I attend the London Python Code Dojos, I used to attend Barcelona ones).
- I’ve participated as an organiser and speaker in the Catalan Free Software Conferences many years. As a attendee or speaker (on 2008) in Fosdem. And as a public in many other events.
