At Mendeley we do one hackday a month. It’s very cool: we do what we want (vaguely related to Mendeley) to experiment with new technologies, approaches. Free thinking!
During 2 or 3 hackdays i started doing a Calibre plugin to import Mendeley documents into Calibre. And then from Calibre to your ebook… in just one mouse click!
You can find the plugin, instructions, etc. in the Mobileread forum Calibre post.
The code can be found in the Git repository.

In English we say “Good morning” (so, we wish a good and nice morning).
In Catalan we say “Bon dia”. Literally: “Good day”. It seems that Catalan language is a bit more generous than English language: wishing a whole good day! (not just the morning).
But in Spanish… we say “Buenos dias”. So, literally: “Good days”. Not the morning, or the day… many days! This is even nicer!
There is always the possible English variant. Instead of “good morning”… we could say “good moaning”. Because there are lot of moaners, aren’t there?
In my recent trip to Morocco I went to some dunes by… dromedary (so, a camel with only one hump).
The guide said that usually the dromedaries cannot be driven (guided) like a horse. Actually the typical desert image is a person walking and then camels following the person (there is always one walker).
I was riding the first dromedary and then we met another group. The guide chained my dromedary to the last dromedary of the other group. After some minutes I saw that the rope would be untied and that my dromedary would be disconnected from the other one. I was wondering… what will happen? will my dromedary keep walking? Will it start walking to some other direction? Maybe start running?
No! when this happened my dromedary just stopped walking. Good safety system!

There is a “free software” license called “Beer license” (or beerware). It doesn’t seem to be recognized as a free software license by theOpen Source Initiative.
In one of the Mendeley hackdays I did a Calibre plugin. I wanted to release it, so it had to have a license. I thought to release with some fun-license like the Beer License. But I don’t really drink beer, so it didn’t make any sense!

Fa mesos pensava on anar aquest febrer/març.

Sometimes I say to friends: if I appear in your dreams, please let me know. I understand that it’s my friend’s dreams and there are some privacy issues. But at the same time it’s my image appearing there, so maybe I have the right to know what my image is doing in other people’s dreams.
Also, and I guess that related to the birthday paradox, if someone comments on their dreams characters someone else in the same conversation could have had some similar characters.

This year I also went to Fosdem.. It has been my 8th Fosdem, and I keep saying that it is Amazing! It’s the biggest Free Software conference in Europe (more than 5000 attendees).
Nice talks, about 20 at the same time, different topics (from distributions to Ada language, from Voice over IP to LibreOffice…).

Some time ago, in a London Python Code Dojo, I heard about Pythonanywhere.com. I thought that it was interesting but I didn’t visit the webpage or register myself (lack of time, lack of need, whatever).
In general speaking I’m a bit reluctant to start depending on more Internet services. I try to use and reuse my existing services (mainly Gandi VPS, I love it!) instead of adding more dependencies to my digital life. Less dependences should be easier to manage, pay, know the system, etc. and I like the “Do It Yourself” approach of Gandi VPS.

Some time ago I read this book:
First of all: I thought that the book would explain how to lose weight eating chocolate (not that I’m interested in losing weight… but I’m interested in eating more chocolate). Sadly, it doesn’t explain this miracle: it explains how to lose weight if you are a chocoholic.
And it doesn’t do any miracles: it explains how to eat less chocolate without getting crazy eating less chocolate.
But there are parts of this book that are completely brilliant! Some pages are amazing, like when it tries to discover what kind of chocolate eater are you… by asking you a series of questions. I didn’t know if the questions were serious or jokes. Best humour! (even if it’s not a humour book).
I like ice-creams. It’s not a surprise because I have a sweet teeth. .. people who know me they usually know.
I always think that ice-cream sellers are selling ice-creams… with happiness. Everyone is happy with an ice-cream! It’s hard to see a unhappy person eating an ice-cream. I’m sure that you can find someone, but not easy, right? Everyone looks like a happy kid joyfully eating!
I think that the reasons are that it’s something sweet (good!) but also ephemeral. It’s not like a chocolate that can last some days. And usually they are eaten when the weather is nice… or the weather is not so nice but the ice-cream eater is in a warm place. Which is also nice!
Some time ago I was a guest to a house. I remember that I bought a soft ice-cream for each person in that house and the picture of all each one 5 eating their ice-cream is priceless.
HAPPY ICE-CREAM!!!
